I know, I know, Green Smoothies get a bad rap for being disgusting. I myself have had several pre-bottled green smoothies that I wanted to pour out immediately after my first sip.
Isn’t smoothie like the weirdest word ever… smooothie.
I have been experimenting with nutritional smoothies for quite some time now. I am a terrible eater. I eat my weight in cheese everyday and I normally have a stick of butter for dinner (okay not really). About once a week I’ll feel super fancy and make myself salmon and Brussels sprouts, but otherwise my eating habits are a total disaster.
With that being said, I find it super easy to get in a great nutritional breakfast! I obviously wouldn’t get my daily vitamins and protein if I didn’t have my morning shake.
First off, the thought of bacon and eggs or biscuits and gravy at 7:30 AM makes me want to puke. I guess you could say I have a sensitive stomach first thing in the morning, so my smoothies have been my ride or die since I began this stupid journey called the “40 hour work week.” I can make my smoothie and pour it into a Yeti or RTIC cup and it will still be cold by the time I’m ready to drink it at work!
I have been making this green smoothie for a few weeks now and it is sooo good! You honestly can’t taste the “green” at all, and that’s why I love it. If you don’t believe me, make it yourself and see.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 Frozen Banana (if your not into banana, pineapple works great too)
- 1 Cup Milk or Almond Milk
- 1-2 Scoops Vanilla Protein Powder (Click Here to see my favorite brand)
- 2 Handfuls of Spinach
- 4 Fresh or Frozen Strawberries
Throw it all in and blend it up. I usually blend this smoothie until I don’t see any large specs of spinach leave left, because I hate smoothies with bits and pieces floating around.
I’ve been using spinach because, like kale, it has a ton of antioxidants and cancer fighting vitamins! Spinach also doesn’t have a bitter taste like kale, so it goes great in smoothies, and its flavor takes a back seat to the vanilla and banana.
Depending on how much milk you use, this smoothie blends so nicely, it almost turns into a juice.
Yay Healthy! Now where’s my cheese.
