I recently got pretty sunburned out on the lake celebrating a friends engagement! I used to not care about sun damage but the older I get, the more I want to take care of my skin.
We couldn’t find any sunscreen before heading out on the boat! 😥 A friend there had tanning oil and I started lathering it ALL OVER myself thinking it at least had SPF 8 or 15, which is something I would normally use, but I looked down at the bottle to see that IT HAD NOTHING. So needless to say I was baking for the rest of the day.
I normally don’t burn, but this was the first time I had seen the sun since last October.
To soothe my crispy body I turned to coconut oil!
I longed for a hot shower but it was SO painful. I decided to take a bath and I put a spoonful of coconut oil and a few drops of essential oils into the bath.
When I got out, I was pleasantly surprised. The coconut oil had left a smooth layer of moisture on my skin with a relaxing smell of the lavender and peppermint oil, which are great oils for sunburns.
Below is a quick and easy recipe for coconut oil bath drops. You can keep these in your refrigerator and pop them in the bath whenever you please!
Only Two Ingredients
- 1 Cup Coconut Oil
- 20 Drops of Essential Oil(s) of your choosing
Melt one cup of Coconut oil in the microwave until clear. Coconut oil melts very easily so you will only need to microwave for about 30 seconds.
Mix in the essential oils thouroughly and pour into a mold. I picked up this ice cube mold at Marshalls for about 4 bucks. Pop them in the refrigerator and when they turn white you are done!
The lesson here is to take care of your skin and always pack some SPF. ♥
