No Sew Tassel Place Mat

June 17, 2016

For the first time the other day I felt old. Babe’s little sister, Bailey, had a friend over while we were cooking some bacon and eggs and we asked her if she cooked.  Her reply, “Fat neat.”

“Excuse me, what?”

“You know, fat neat.”

Um…no I don’t know. She proceeded to tell us it basically meant no, and for the first time Babe and I didn’t understand the youths of today’s world.  I can only imagine what else they are saying now and it scared me for when my future kids become high schoolers! I never thought I would literally know nothing about the new slang. Normally you can pick it up but this caught us off guard!

This brings me to my next project, decorating place mats. Something I never thought would sound fun or appealing suddenly does. I find myself stocking up on things for future dinner parties and get-togethers. You never know when you might need it! Oh how priorities have changed over the past few years!

Goodwill is the perfect place to find place mats, especially if you plan to spruce it up on your own. I never like to spend too much money on something I am going to alter.

This project, like many of my projects, was very simple. After selecting the place mats, I purchased tassel garland at Hobby Lobby for $6 a yard.

With fabric glue, glue the garland onto the place mats and let dry. This could be a really fun kids project this summer!

My sewing machine is at my parents house or I probably would have sewn this on. I would like to get mini pom pom garland and sew it on napkins. You might be seeing that soon!
