Staining 101

January 6, 2016

Hello Friends!

Staining is one of the most basic mediums you can use to re-do or re-vamp any wooden project. Today I am staining what will be the tops to my BAR CART my dad and grandfather made for me! If you are wanting to stain an old piece of furniture you will need to make sure you sand off the old finish completely before starting new.

There are several techniques you can use to stain, however my favorite is just wiping it on with a staining cloth. You can also use an old t-shirt or basically any rag.

All you have to do is dip your rag in the stain and rub it on the wood. The more stain you use the richer your color will be. If you are staining light wood to a dark color you may want to leave the stain sitting for 10 minutes before wiping off.

After letting it dry I always coat with with polyurethane to protect the wood!

That’s all folks!
